The Cakemaker
In a story that looks strange to a German young man named Thomas, I have a romantic relationship with Oren, a married Israeli man who died in a serious accident. Thomas travels to Jerusalem to search for answers to many questions, and there he will meet the widow of his former lover named Anat. Perhaps Thomas will find himself involved with Anat.

Rather than an over-the-top melodrama, it asks profound questions about human nature, empathy, and our value beyond archaic doctrines that separate more than unite.

A small film, sensitive and, in its own way, quite effective. [Full Review in Spanish]

An enjoyable slice of unexpected connection.

There is an earnest, emotional truth to the characters and their relationships - which is plain to see in their faces, even when secrets are being hidden.

Kalkhof has perfect chemistry with both Miller and Adler. The characters don't have to talk for the audience to feel the loss, love and desire they're experiencing.

Graizer take his time and never feels the need to spell everything out, and "The Cakemaker" is a testament to what filmmakers can achieve when they trust the audience.

Credit first-time writer/director Ofir Raul Graizer with pulling off something of a miracle.

The movie is good at (very) slowly turning up the heat, but a lot of it comes out half-baked.

A tender, tactile and just-sweet-enough story of hidden love, challenged faith and unwittingly shared grief.

The most fascinating kind of tension results, an unusual state of affairs that plays fair with the characters, and with us.

Natural performances from Kalkhof and Adler root the melodrama in genuine pathos.
